A few years ago, I had the pleasure of sailing into the Yokohama Harbor at daybreak. When Americans think about German music, they associate it with the Polka-band sounds they hear at the various Oktoberfests held around the country. 1940s Several years before the war, an aquaplane race was run on an annual basis from the isthmus at Avalon to Hermosa Beach, California. It was a race and a test of endurance for both man and boat and usually less than 20% of the field ever managed to finish.
